MUSEUM OF ESTONIANS ABROAD

Where our history lives on!

The Building

Tartu College has completed the design drawings and also received a building permit for a 7,700 square foot (710 m2) building addition onto its property. There is also another 7,000 square foot (650 m2) Archive located in the basement of the College. The storage area of the Archival Collection features air conditioning, humidity control and a preaction sprinkler system.

The Plan

Tartu College's VEMU building project comprises of 3 phases. The 1st phase (the foundations, an extensive parking garage rehabilitation, the establishment of a proper storage area for the Archive and 95% of all work below grade) has been completed at the cost of $2.1M.

The 2nd phase consists of a new entrance off of Madison Avenue, the installation of the museum's elevator and the connection to the existing Tartu College building. This phase of the project is expected to begin in the summer of 2012.

The 3rd phase is the completion of the 3 storey 7,700 square foot building.

The projected cost of Phases 2 and 3 is estimated at approximately $3.5 M.

Financing

Tartu College has completely financed Phase 1 and plans to finance Phase 2. However, to complete Phase 3 in a timely manner, it will require further funds from others.
