Smirnov has led an extraordinary life that took him from Estonia to Israel, Germany, Spain and finally Canada. Along the way Smirnov added musical influences and partnerships. Roman Smirnov travels to his first home of Tallinn, Estonia, for a special concert and interview.
“Smirnov is a guitar player who is known for his virtuosity in classical and flamenco varieties of music. What he plays is reflective of a life path that has brought him together with people from all across the world and into new stylistic approaches.
It really is spectacular to see how he takes the guitar rested on his knee and travels the world with it.” (Vincent Teetsov, Estonian Life)
The Memories of Home Online Concert Series embraces the duality of having roots in one country while starting afresh in another. In a global society characterized by immigration, many Canadians are familiar with memories that compete for the title of “home”. Such memories might be fleeting images or feelings deep down inside – vague or distinct – conjuring up an attachment to place.
