In 1949 a ship named “Victory” carrying several hundred mainly Estonian refugees from Sweden to Canada unexpectedly landed in Ireland, causing conundrums for the authorities, passengers, and locals. Historian Gabriel Doherty (University College Cork) tells the fascinating tale of how they responded to the challenges.
